16 Days of Activism 2023

Zonta Club of Melton is proud to participate in this year’s 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign in Victoria.

This 16 Days of Activism and beyond, let's change the story and create a future where we are all safe, equal and respected.

We all deserve to be safe, equal and respected. But on average, a woman in Australia is killed by a man they know every 10 days.

It doesn't have to be this way.

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is a global campaign led annually by UN Women.

It runs every year from 25 November (the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to 10 December (Human Rights Day).

During the 16 Days of Activism, communities around the world join the call to prevent and eliminate violence against women and girls. This year’s campaign encourages all Victorians to work together to prevent violence against women.

We held a working bee to complete the 16 orange ladies with different signage on each lady. 12 will be positioned in the Melton Library and 4 in the Caroline Springs library. It was decided that we would not have the signage at intersections this year but to concentrate on community areas with the ‘ladies’.

We have been donated another 15 smaller ‘orange ladies’ from the Melbourne East Zonta Club which has unfortunately closed. These ‘ladies’ will be used in various areas on front desks and possibly in shop windows in the future.
